For participation in the multidisciplinary “KU Leuven – Stellenbosch University Think Tank, edition 2016” KU Leuven is looking for:
15 Master students
The “KU Leuven – Stellenbosch University Think Tank” is an extracurricular and eminently multidisciplinary research program for outstanding Master students, organized within the framework of the Preferential Partnership Agreement between KU Leuven and Stellenbosch University (South-Africa). The program is led by an academic coordinator, assisted by an interdisciplinary academic team. Over the course of 10 months (February – November 2016), selected students will work on a central theme and a number of sub areas in cooperation with their 15 colleagues from Stellenbosch University. The Think Tank develops a process-based approach of the chosen theme and defines the content of its research components.
At the end of the process (November 2016), the results of the Think Tank will be finalized during a joint concluding ‘workshop week’ at the University of Stellenbosch. Finally, its findings will be presented at a public symposium at the end of this workshop week.
This call is open to students from ALL KU Leuven faculties.
The selected students, who participated during the whole course of the program, added value to and completed the full process, will receive a certificate stating their successful commitment and participation in this multidisciplinary and intercultural research program.
The theme for the “KU Leuven – Stellenbosch University Think Tank, edition 2016” is:
Brave new world? Merging technology and society: opportunities, challenges and threats for the quality of life
Sub areas of the 2016 theme: · Health · Sustainability · Education · Social relations, identity and resilience · Law and ethics

Conditions for participation: · Candidates have achieved excellent academic results at the completion of their Bachelor Studies (top 10%). · They demonstrate social commitment and a specific interest in social issues, and are willing to use and share their own initial academic training in a multidisciplinary and intercultural context. · Candidates are prepared to commit themselves for a longer period of time, and under the guidance of an academic coordinator, in an extracurricular research project. · Candidates also have a good working knowledge of English, as well as excellent communication skills. · Candidates have to be enrolled as a Master student at KU Leuven at the start of the Think Tank program (February 2016).
Applications and selection: Applications should consist of following elements: · A detailed curriculum vitae; · A motivation letter of maximum 1 page; · A copy of the final results of the completed Bachelor Studies.

Fifteen participants will be selected from all applications received.
Notification of selection will be sent in the period 23/11 – 27/11/2015.
This edition of the “KU Leuven – Stellenbosch University Think Tank” will start in February 2016 and will end its activities after the concluding workshop week in November 2016.
Travel expenses (flights) in the context of the workshop week will be covered by KU Leuven, accommodation is provided by the University of Stellenbosch.
